Colorectal Surgery

Colorectal Surgery is a subspecialty of General Surgery dedicated to the management of complex disorders of the small intestine, colon, rectum, and anus.

Dr Steen has completed advanced subspecialty training in Colorectal Surgery at Cabrini Health and Alfred Health in Melbourne, as well as at Prince of Wales Hospital in Sydney and Eastern Health in Melbourne. This training was undertaken through the Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia and New Zealand (CSSANZ) post-fellowship program.

Dr Steen has a particular interest in colorectal cancer screening and management, in addition to diagnostic and therapeutic colonoscopy, gastroscopy, and proctology, including the treatment of haemorrhoids and other anorectal conditions. He is committed to comprehensive colorectal care, from screening and diagnosis through to treatment and follow-up, with an emphasis on patient understanding and shared decision-making.

Dr Steen provides treatment for a range of specialised colorectal conditions, including:

  • FOBT Screening & National Bowel Cancer Screening Program

  • Colon and Rectal Cancer

  • Disease of the Small Bowel or Appendix

  • Diverticular Disease

  • Inflammatory and Irritable Bowel

  • Haemorrhoid Treatment (including incision free techniques)

  • Anal Fissures and Fistula

  • Rectal Prolapse

  • Constipation
